Maximizing Throughput, Consistency & Safety with Automation

Microscopy Todays Jan/Feb 2024 issue features an in-depth article on “Creating Efficient Workflows for Electron Microscopy Laboratories with Automated Specimen Preparation.” It highlights the immense benefits of automated biological specimen prep, among them consistency, reproducibility & speed. Reducing employee exposure to toxic reagents is another benefit, as demand for TEM and vEM increases and the industry sees shortages of experienced personnel.

MORE RECENTLY PUBLISHED RESEARCH

Automated Prep for TEM

Publishing in Nature Cancer, Oregon Health & Science University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center researchers  investigated the effects of lipids and their modifying enzymes on the progression of pancreatic cancer. TEM specimens were prepared with mPrep/s capsules and the mPrep ASP-2000 automated processor.

Automated Prep for Serial Block Face Scanning EM

Researchers at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, and Cleveland Clinic published in the journal Nutrients on the effects of high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced obesity on the mitochondrial respiration of splenic B cells, involved in insulin resistance, inflammation, and responses to infection.  The ASP-1000 was used to prepare specimens for 3D serial block face scanning electron microscopy (SBFEM).
Automated Prep for vEM

Nature declared volume EM one of seven "technologies to watch" early in 2023, and in June the Methods in Cell Biology series published Volume 177, Volume Electron Microscopy. Several chapters describe the use of mPrep capsules and/or the mPrep ASP:
