A note from Ponds Rx Regarding Algae Growth:
Woodland Springs lake has developed another planktonic algae bloom.
This is characterized as a bright green or pea green soup colored surface algae. This type of algae has the ability to quickly change into a cyanobacteria based algae, especially during the hot summer months.
Cyanobacteria based algae's can cause respiratory irritation in humans and pets. Caution should be given as to swimming and ingestion until further notice.
Irrigation should be kept to a minimum as to not mist private property with this water.
Yellow buoys will be placed into the lake this afternoon as a visual indicator as to the water being unsafe to swim in. While these buoys are installed, please keep pets and humans clear of the water.
Ponds Rx is doing what they can to prevent this from getting worse. However, we are extremely limited with what we can use to control this without causing an extreme fish loss. We are limited to surface applications in the littoral zones of the lake, 2 weeks apart to allow the ponds oxygen levels to recover.
We will constantly be on touch with status updates as the season progresses.
Thanks so much! Your Ponds Rx Team.
