LAKE AND WATERCRAFT UPDATE

Prepare your lake vessel for winter!

Most of the boats at each common area are properly secured and stored not to accumulate water. However, some, like Miyagi Vice as pictured, are not properly stored or secured. It is also not registered to Woodland Springs so we cannot contact the owner. It has been on east side boat area for past 45 days. If you know the owner, please have the boat removed or registered by Thanksgiving.

REMINDER: LAKE WOODLAND IS A “SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK” LAKE. THE WATER QUALITY IS NOT ROUTINELY TESTED FOR BACTERIAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL CONTENT, ETC.

BUOY MARKERS WILL BE PLACED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE WHEN IT IS NOT SAFE TO SWIM IN THE LAKE, DRINK LAKE WATER, FISH, OR WATER YOUR LAWNS. THIS WILL NORMALLY FOLLOW A LAKE TREATMENT. PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE OR CONTACT KIRKPATRICK MANAGEMENT COMPANY FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION.

LAKE SAFETY DURING THE WINTER

Here are a few tips to remember when considering standing on or walking on a frozen body of water:

  • No ice is safe ice.
  • Test the thickness of the ice with an ice auger. At least 4 inches of ice is recommended for ice fishing; 5 inches is recommended for snowmobiling.
  • If you don’t know the thickness of the ice, don‘t go on it. Wear a life jacket or flotation coat.
  • Carry ice hooks and rope gear.
  • Before going on the ice, leave a note of your whereabouts with a friend or family member.
  • Don’t test the thickness of the ice while alone.
Wearing a life jacket is especially important when on ice. If you fall through, a life jacket will keep your head above the water until help arrives.

Remember that a new coating of snow, while perhaps beautiful, can make for treacherous ice conditions. Snow can serve as insulation, causing water to freeze at a slower rate. When snow and rain freeze into ice, it is not as strong as solid, clear ice.

Another potentially dangerous situation is when you see a pet or other animal in distress on the ice. If that happens, do not go after it. Instead, contact local emergency response personnel, who are equipped to make a rescue.

Special thanks to Cathy Johnson, who has agreed to chair the Social Committee!

THANKSGIVING SAFETY HINTS

For most, the kitchen is the heart of the home, especially during the holidays. From testing family recipes to decorating cakes and cookies, everyone enjoys being part of the preparations.

So keeping fire safety top of mind in the kitchen during this joyous but hectic time is important, especially when there’s a lot of activity and people at home.

As you start preparing your holiday schedule and organizing that large family feast, remember, by following a few simple safety tips you can enjoy time with your loved ones and keep yourself and your family safer from fire.

WINTERIZE YOUR HOME

When temperatures drop during the colder months, it doesn’t just make houses harder to heat. Low temperatures create a bevy of effects on your home features, which is why it’s essential to learn how to winterize a house.

The answer is a process called winterization, which bundles a house up safely before experiencing the cold. Regularly deep freezes require even more winterizing steps. But don’t worry: We’re covering everything you need to know here, including if you should pay for professional winterization and what steps are important in your climate.

ARCHITECTURAL CHANGES

Recognizing that we're all busy, the Woodland Springs Board of Directors has tried to make the Architectural Change Request Process as efficient as possible.

To make it easier, we have provided guidance and an online request form.

The intention of this review/approval is not to discourage or prevent residents from making improvements. On the contrary, we love improvements.

As an HOA, our interest is to protect and increase property values. Part of the Board of Directors' fiduciary responsibility is to ensure the guidelines outlined within the Covenants of 2011 are followed.
