Birthday Sale, News + Updates:

I'm celebrating a big birthday!

Dear friends, family, colleagues and art-lovers:

I'm celebrating a milestone birthday this month! If you follow me on Instagram (@erica_harney_artist) or Facebook (Erica Harney, Artist), you may have noticed that throughout the month I'll be posting 40 creative accomplishments that I'm proud of. See below for a few examples.

I'm also holding a sale on my Etsy shop: 40% off selected paintings and watercolors (sale excludes newer work, books, and custom orders)! I've never offered a discount this great and it'll be a good long while before something like this comes around again! Help me celebrate my birthday by helping me to downsize my inventory ;)

Scroll down for more information as well as some news about past and upcoming events...

To those that have been following me and rooting for me over the past 18 years of my professional career, I appreciate you.

Thank you!
Erica

40% Off Selected Existing Work (in Honor of My Upcoming Milestone Birthday!).

This is the largest discount I have ever offered...and it'll be another decade before it happens again (unless I decided to liquidate my shop between now and then!). Check out my available offerings on my shop.

Please note: shop will be closed from May 15th- May 21st while I take a little break!

For a more comprehensive view of the kinds of personal watercolors I've been working on for the last few years, visit my website! I spent a lot of time back over the winter re-organizing and editing my site for your viewing pleasure and convenience ;)

Custom Watercolors for Any Occasion: Based on Your Photos

As you well know by now, I offer custom watercolors and oil paintings of homes, businesses, churches/temples/mosques, schools/universities, landscapes, interiors, pets and vehicles. All you need to order is a clear, well-lit reference photo (as a JPEG)  and I'll take care of the rest! I can also ship practically anywhere in the world.

You can either order directly from my website (recommended if you're local to Greater Philadelphia and want to pick up your painting from my studio) or from my Etsy shop (recommended if you require shipping).

Either way, I encourage you to please check out some of the paintings and watercolors I have been commissioned to create, especially over the past few years since opening my Etsy shop in late 2019. Even I- my own biggest critic- am sometimes impressed by the variety of work I've created for my clients and collectors!

40 Accomplishments (in Honor of My Birthday)

Throughout the month I will be posting 40 creative accomplishments I'm proud of on my social media. This photo is from my BFA Thesis Exhibition at the Alfred University School of Art and Design in May of 2006: I'm pictured in front of some of my work with my sister (left) and longtime friend/fellow artist Corey Compa @live.love.heinous.

Revisiting my "Paint Skin" collages.....

Right before and during the early days of Lockdown, I began a series of collages comprised mainly of the pieces of dried paint that I peel out of my 5-gallon mixing buckets when I’m working on a mural or scenic project. In 2020, I made over 350 8 x 8” “Paint Skin” collages but have always had it in mind that I wasn’t quite done with them. A few weeks ago, I began going back into some of the remaining collages in the series and adding new cut-paper collage elements, imposing a sense of order over an otherwise abstract scene. Here are three of my new favorites! A few more like this can be seen on my website and shop, with MANY more to come!

Keep reading for more information about the types of mural and scenic projects that create these paint skins!

Detail from My Most Recent Mural...

If you live in Philadelphia, there's a good chance you live in a rowhome with a small backyard surrounded by a concrete or cinderblock wall. This particular mural, completed at the end of April, is located on just such a wall, a few blocks from Center City Philadelphia. You may have already seen some photos on my social media, but I'm very excited to share completed photos once the homeowners have finished the rest of their backyard improvements! Contact me to learn more about how to transform your Philly backyard from drab to fab or to schedule a free one-hour-site visit (serious inquiries only please).

Check out more examples of past murals of all sorts on my website!

Potentially interested in a mural for your home, yard or business? Here's what you need to know to get started!

ART FOR THE CASH POOR: June 8th from 12-6 in Philadelphia

Hoping that the third time's the charm.......last year I was supposed to participate in InLiquid's annual Art for the Cash Poor (AFTCP) event, but it was cancelled due to smoke caused by Canadian wildfires. The event was rescheduled for the fall, where it was AGAIN cancelled, this time due to severe winds. In theory, I should be at this event with my watercolors (and some updates to my booth display!). Mark your calendars!

If you can't make it in person, or you're a pessimist and assume the event is going to be cancelled for some reason, you can always browse on my Etsy shop and website.

Exhibition Opening at Powell Lane Arts Center in Collingswood, NJ....ALSO on June 8th.

Yes, I'm double-booked for Saturday, June 8th! I'm delighted to share that I have two paintings in the upcoming Materials Matter exhibition at Powell Lane Arts Center. This will be my first time exhibiting at this venue and I'm disappointed that I will be missing the opening party (I'll be vending at Art for the Cash Poor in Philadelphia that afternoon: see above for details). Please do stop in and see the show if you're in the area- it promises to be really interesting!

Scenery for a Laser Tag Facility in Princeton, NJ

I recently did  some work for Aardvark Studios on some simple scenery for Tac Ops Laser Tag in Princeton. I'm not sure if photos are available, so you may just need to see it for yourself! I personally have never played laser tag but most people I've spoken to that have seem to enjoy it!

Lansdowne Arts Committee: Next Exhibition Opens June 1st!

Aside from my own work, I am also a member of the Lansdowne Arts Committee (FKA Lansdowne Arts Board)! In the past I have helped to curate and organize exhibitions in the 20*20 House Gallery and the UtilityWorks Kiosk Gallery, both in Lansdowne. Later this month I will be installing our next group exhibition: Eco Impressions: Art for a Sustainable Future in our beautiful 20*20 House Gallery! follow the Lansdowne Arts Committee for more info and updates. Hope to see you on June 1st in LansDOWNE (not LansDALE!) PA, 19050. #downenotdale

Recently Participated in the Media Spring Arts Show in Media, PA

I forgot to promote this event in my last newsletter (oops) so I at least wanted to acknowledge that it took place on April 21st. It was quite chilly that day. Photo courtesy of @aroundmainline

Recent Watercolor Workshops in PA and MD

Even though I left teaching during the Pandemic, I still enjoy teaching the occasional watercolor workshop! This year I've taught a handful at Delaware County Christian (a private high school outside of Philadelphia) as well as at the Steppingstone Farm Museum in Havre de Grace, Maryland. This is an image of student work alongside their reference photo!

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter. Your continued support is very much appreciated!
