Since last meeting:
Not much to report – we have several members still giving service to the community and several of us are working on the Veterans Day commemoration on 11/11. Clarke handed out fliers and encouraged everyone to hand them out/place them in restaurants/tell everyone you come in contact with. We are also looking for two more flag bearers. Special Guests: - Alicia Boroto from the Abraham Lincoln Center – Officials from the US Consulate will be coming to Cuenca the week of December 16-20 for passport renewals and notarizations. Exact date is not known yet but we will put it out and also announce at meeting in December.
- Mike Coffey from 19th Hole – He has a full golf simulator in his home with a 15-foot screen, along with both left and right-handed clubs. If you golf, or want to try, you get the full experience from wind to different times of day. For MVOC members, he is offering a free 9-hole test run to see how you like it. - Deah Dority from Yapa Tree – Yapa Tree has been around for quite some time…they are now transitioning to just real estate and she will provide everything and anything needed to buy, sell or rent properties tailored just for you.
- Janne Garcia, OM Dental – She and her husband gave a slide show of the range of services their clinic provides (just about everything for your mouth) and, with a $25 membership fee, discounts are available. They set up a WhatsApp group just for the MVOC (https://chat.whatsapp.com/JZ9Pcj22atkISGydfhNgee) also posted on MVOC1 WhatsApp) and are offering a $30 consult that includes a tour of their facilities and what they offer, a diagnosis and treatment plan, smile design consultation and diagnosis and information on specialist treatment values according to your needs. Two offices in Cuenca, one Ordonez Lasso and the other on Primero de Mayo. They also have a coffee shop and meeting area.

- Video regarding Broadway in Cuenca – Organizers are giving MVOC members 20% off and gave a link for it.
- Steve Chasson from GRACE Foundation – GRACE (Give Refugees A Chance) provides many services, including general medicine, pediatric, gynecologic, psychological and dental care, along with food, clothing, and English lessons. They are currently bringing local children together with refugee children to learn music, sing, and play instruments together – building bridges between the two cultures through music. They are currently looking for donated instruments – if you have one you no longer use, the kids can use it. Initial class is 16 kids, ages 8 to 15.
Upcoming Events - Christmas party for the Tadeo Torres Orphanage – This will be our third year sponsoring a party for the kids at the orphanage. We need ideas, a planning committee, etc. The Cuenca Sports Center is moving to a bigger location – we are waiting for verification of move and confirmation that December 14th is good.
Patches, shirts and hats with new MVOC logo are available for purchase. Patches are $4, hats are $8, and shirts are $16. We are making no profit on these…just provided as a way to ‘represent’ the MVOC. Shop is called Bordados Gama and is located on Calle Tarqui 11-30 between Mariscal Lamar and Sangurima. Or, let John or Clarke know and they will place your order.

- Blood types – We have a list complied of blood types. If anyone is hospitalized and needs blood, rather than paying for it, vets can help vets and donate their blood. Granted, some of us are too old to donate, but we are never too old to receive…thus our list has names, ages and blood types so we know who can help if the need arises. Just contact Clarke or John by WhatsApp if you need blood or want to donate.
- HCA Clinic – the clinic is open for business. Our Veterans Services Officer, Mark Tomlinson, can help veterans with the paperwork needed to use the clinic. Again, it is NOT affiliated with with the VA, and can only be used for service-related disabilities, but it is there for those who qualify to use.

We need ideas, a planning committee, etc. We had an electric piano donated and we will give that to the orphanage as our Christmas present to them (before accepting it, we checked with the orphanage director and he graciously accepted and will not tell any of the staff or the kids. Clarke will secure lessons to go along with the piano. We are looking at the second Saturday in December to hold the party – we will confirm prior to the next meeting and let everyone know.
