Greeting beautiful black people,
As always, I hope you had a restful weekend!
I want to take a moment to wish our 1Ls the best of luck with midterms. BLSA is here for you and is rooting for your success! We hope you enjoyed the series of programming last week aimed to extend our support. Thank you to our 1L Coordinators (Alexis Manning and Wan Gikiri) for organizing the Midterm & CIA Study Hall and 1L Headshot event as well as our Social Chairs (Bernard Baffoe-Mensah and Isiuwa Oghagbon) for coordinating 1L Care Packages. BLSA looks forward to continue supporting you through the rest of the academic year!
Additionally, thank you to those who attended our Town Hall last week led by our Attorney General (Jada Romulus). BLSA wants to insure that you all have a safe space to express any concern or experiences. If you have any remaining questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to either Jada or myself.

NATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION (NBA) WOMEN LAWYERS DIVISION WE EMPOWER MENTORING PROGRAM APPLICATION OPEN
|
|
The National Bar Association - Women Lawyers Division is accepting applications for their We Empower Mentorship Program with is open to Black women law students (all years). In addition to the traditional mentoring programming throughout the year, mentoring program participants are eligible to apply for WLD’s scholarships in the spring as well as WLD’s stipends for the National Bar Association convention (last year stipend recipients received $1,000, plus got free tickets to most of the big events and a discounted registration price of $50). Students can ignore the restriction on the flyer that its only for law students attending HBCU schools as they have opened it up to all law schools.

GW BLSA WELLNESS EVENT URBAN BOXING

Unfortunately, the urban boxing event on the 14th had to be rescheduled due to the loss of a cherished member of the boxing community in D.C. As a result, the gym has given us the tentative date of Friday, October 21st at 7:50 pm. Since we're still communicating with them, we've included other dates we think could be options.

CALLING ALL 3Ls! BAR PREP LUNCH AND LEARN SESSIONS

The Themis Lunch and Learn is cancelled due to low registration numbers and scheduling conflicts. In place of the lunch and learn, we will be sending an informative video that discusses discounts for BLSA members and other helpful initiatives that will assist public interest students with bar prep fees.
3L students are encouraged to attend the "Lunch and Learn: Bar Prep Information sessions to learn more about options and discounts for BLSA students. Lunch will be provided. Helix Bar Review will present on October 17, 2022 at noon. The session will be held in the SCC exclusively for BLSA. The registration link is below.

DEPARTMENT OF LABOR OFFICE OF THE SOLICITOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH DIVISION SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The OSH Division is currently accepting applications for summer legal internships with the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of the Solicitor. We are reaching out to law school affinity groups and other organizations in an effort to strengthen the diversity of our applicant pool.
Interns in the Division of Occupational Safety and Health will receive a variety of assignments throughout the office's practice areas. The internship is an excellent opportunity for rising 3L law students to gain experience with appellate litigation, rulemaking, and enforcement along with exposure to federal government operations.
We will accept and review applications on a rolling basis until November 18, 2022.
